ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) — Maryland’s largest school district is scrapping sex education materials that have come under fire for implying that homosexuality is a biological trait and for demonstrating how to put on a condom.
The Montgomery County school board voted Monday to rethink its curriculum, weeks after a federal lawsuit was filed by two groups who said it did not do enough to stress abstinence or give opposing views on
homosexuality.Gone from the curriculum will be materials that imply homosexuality is a biological trait, excluding viewpoints of those who believe same-sex attraction can be overcome.
Thanks, S.E.

When are these holy rolling morons going to start living up to their principles?
Why does everyone always cave to Them? I mean, look at that pathetic performance by Newsweek a few days ago. And all this BS about sex ed, to say nothing of sex. When are they going to start caving to Us?
yes, why talk about condoms during sex education? it’s so innapropriate. and btw, it’s not called abstinence education. you don’t need a class on nothing. a nice compromise would be for parents to be warned ahead of time and allowed to exclude their child from the class.
“excluding viewpoints of those who believe same-sex attraction can be overcome.” —But what did Jeebus say? For my humble opinion please see my website…..
quixote Says: Why does everyone always cave to Them?
It’s called fascism american style.
NCLB and its lack of funding have left districts too broke to defend suits like this. Even if they win, they lose.
Of course, the new curriculum will require them to spring for a giant stork costume. And those pads of abstinance pledge forms aren’t free.
Other visual aids, such as hairy gloves, and appearances by guest speakers like Chlamydia Carla and Itchy Mitchy, unfortunately, may be prohibitively expensive for an underfunded school district.
So even if they lose, they lose.
Perhaps someone can threaten to sue to have the curriculum and materials reinstated. After all, they’ve already paid for the condom video.
NCLB doesn’t cover chastity belts?
Man…I would love to see an “abstinence only” final exam. Every answer would be: (E) None Of The Above.
Aced!
Maybe, they should scrap all sex education. Let the kiddies learn by experience.
I am irritated more every day by these “moral leaders”, who profess to be morality personafied, and want to dictate to others how it’s supposed to be.
If they could actually teach the value of abstinence, it would be one of the most beneficial teachings the kids could ever get. A person with control over their sexual urges is very near to controlling the mind itself, one of the rarest and greatest accomplishments in all of humanity.

That last sentence doesn’t make sense–am I confused or is it just bad writing?
“Gone from the curriculum will be materials that imply homosexuality is a biological trait, excluding viewpoints of those who believe same-sex attraction can be overcome.” It implies that the people who believe you can be educated out of being gay are the same people who believe that homosexuality is biological, while the reality is the opposite. I mean, I’m all for excluding the viewpoints of those who believe same-sex attaction can be overcome!
Pandu, did your parents control their sexual urges?
Izq,
I don’t know. I wasn’t born yet, and I’m not going to ask them.
Anyway, controlling isn’t the same as stopping. It means thinking with one’s brain instead of one’s private parts, or using the intelligence to control the mind instead of the reverse.
well that’s a more realistic approach to the throbbing hormones of a puberty-based teenager than sex education. “go against all your natural urges honey, the very fiber of your being.”
you know why teenagers have sex? the same reason everyone else does.
Maybe not realistic for everyone, but the one I really wish I had as a child was to be educated on the value of conserving and sublimating my sexual energy. Yoga and ayurveda teach that the pleasure that comes from sex is at the expense of our vitality, due to the great supply of complex nutrients that are required to produce the seminal fluids. When this fluid is conserved through restricting the downward flow, and sublimated by remembering Sri Krishna, it transforms into a subtle nutrient (ojas) for the brain which gives incredibly sharp intelligence and a wonderful bodily effulgence (halo).
As James R. suggests, most youths may already too far down the road to stupidity to apply themselves to such a pure discipline. But it cheats the future of humanity for this subtle biological science to be withheld from them. It’s not enough to teach how to put on condoms. It’s also not enough to avoid teaching about condoms. They need to understand _why_ they should restrict their sex gratification and _how_ to sublimate the unused energy. That would be a great benefit.
Hare Krishna.
