Dad looks pretty good for someone who just had his insides rearranged. He’s upset because he can’t have anything to eat or drink for the next few days, but he’s doing okay. The ICU nurse says she can’t believe how well he’s doing the day after major surgery.
And I saw the cardiologist today, too. Good news - my heart is just peachy. In fact, he said, my heart is pumping blood more efficiently than most people. (I pump out 71% of the blood, as opposed to the average 50%.) Cool, or what?

I had a feeling you were above average! So glad your Dad’s doing well. My father had that procedure and did just great. Isn’t modern medicine amazing?
I’m glad you’re both OK.
Best wishes to you & your Dad.
Very glad to hear this. A lot of people are rooting for you and your dad.
I don’t understand how a heart can only pump 50%, or even 71%. Why isn’t it 100% for everyone all the time? What other organ pumps blood?
I imagine that what we’re talking about here is the heart’s “ejection fraction”; that is, the fraction, or percentage, of the oxygenated blood in the left ventricle that is pumped out, or ejected, to the arteries.
Ejected per beat, that is.
