Quotable:
Among conservatives there’s been too much pseudo-populism, almost too much concern and attention for, quote, ‘the people’… After all, we conservatives are on the side of the lords and barons… We…are pulling up the drawbridge against the peasants.
- William Kristol

Sure is an odd metaphor for a Jew to use.
It seems that most conservative Jews — at least the ones who still can’t find anything wrong with the way the Republicans are running the country currently — are foolish enough to believe their fellow wingnuts when they talk about “Judeo-Christian values.” Once the GOP gets its Focus on the Famil-ocracy, the “Judeo-” part will hit the floor faster than the Bush twins dodging a military recruiter. Kristol and his ilk will suddenly remember, too late, their Martin Niemoller: “First they came for the liberals and I did not care because I was not one….”
the side of the lords and barons, pulling up the drawbridge against the peasants. the side of the rich and powerful, pulling up the drawbridge against the people.
nice job if you can get it. or if you’re a lord or baron.
well…at least they’re finally being honest about SOMETHING.
Susie,
Where did you find this quote, please?
Thanks!

I found it referred to as from a Washington Post interview, but didn’t find the original story.
Except that when the drawbridge does go up, he’s going to be surprised to find that the lords and ladies have left him outside to face the unwashed mobs. These guys have been around the rich people for so long that they have actually begun to believe that they are inside the circle. Kristol is just the son of a jewish college professor to them.
