Meanwhile, Back at the Plantation

WASHINGTON — The federal government’s chief investigator yesterday blasted the Pentagon for its ”atrocious financial management,” saying the Defense Department was not able to give federal oversight officials a full accounting of the $1 billion being spent each week on the war in Iraq.
The GAO has been examining the Pentagon’s Iraq expenses, and ”we’re having extreme difficulty in getting the Department of Defense to provide a full accounting of what they’re spending” there, Walker said. ”I can’t understand how we’re spending $1 billion a week.”
But if you look at the entire mess as just another colonial adventure to enrich certain insiders, it makes a lot more sense.

That’s a hell of a quote.
Over and over I see people (and Dogs — I do it myself) puzzling over what in the world could explain this, that, or t’other piece of Bush administration boneheaded, counter-productive, self-contradictory, poisonous so-called policy.
The simplest explanation I’ve been able to come up with is that all of it is in the furtherance of looting and pillage. Occam’s razor?
Well, of course there’s that aspect.
Dubya never made an honest dollar in his life, so he’d be very open to looting and pillage in his regime.
Sigh.
You peeple, you peeple have no concept what a heavy load it is to bear the white man’s burden in this craxy, mixed up world.
Why, these Iraqis would be lost without us to help them make progress. That it costs more than anticipated is only an indication of how Truly Resolute we are, how Steadfast in Our Duty, and how Benevolent our Good Intentions.
Why, it makes grown men weep to contemplate how wonderful we are to be over there helping, like we do. We bear up so steadily under all their throes — their beginning, middle and last throes.
And you peeple, you little peeple, have the Nerve — the Nerve — to complain about the disposition of necessary and vouchsafed funds.
Come on. It’s only green paper. Pallets and pallets of green paper.
There. Feel better?
