The Divine Right of Kings

I’m trying to remember Bush ever threatening a veto before. And now, he does it to protect his “right” to torture anybody, anywhere, for any reason. Sure sounds like someone thinking about his future - say, in front of a war crimes tribunal?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House on Thursday threatened to veto a massive Senate bill for $442 billion in next year’s defense programs if it moves to regulate the Pentagon’s treatment of detainees or sets up a commission to investigate operations at Guantanamo Bay prison and elsewhere.
The Bush administration, under fire for the indefinite detention of enemy combatants at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and questions over whether its policies led to horrendous abuses at Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq, put lawmakers on notice it did not want them legislating on the matter. [...]
“If legislation is presented that would restrict the president’s authority to protect Americans effectively from terrorist attack and bring terrorists to justice,” the bill could be vetoed, the statement said.

Bush is, in fact, the only person ever to have gone through an entire 4-year term without ever using a veto. (Think about that– LBJ had a stretch where he had a 2/3 majority in both the House and Senate– and he still managed to veto a bunch of stuff. Abe Lincoln had a stretch where the opposition party up and left Congress, and he still managed to veto some stuff.)
Another fine example of the chief chimp’s mind set that because he’s president, he doesn’t have to listen to anybody, but they have to listen to him.
chimpy has threatened to veto the stem cell bill that is in the works…
chimpy doesn’t like judges legislating from the bench, but he sure doesn’t want legislation to interfere with his royal fiats either. (is that plural correct? it doesn’t sound right…)
he’s never had to veto because nothing he doesn’t like ever gets passed w/ the utterly powerless opposition.
it is disgusting that dems ever cross party lines now.
those abu graib photos need to be released NOW so people can make a connect between what he’s saying and the actual acts he is clinging to.
revolting.
May God scoop out his entrails.
why would bush have a need to veto anything when the gop is controlling congress?
He has threatened before. I refer to veto threats as his little tantrums. I mean, what is so scary about a veto, if I might ask? Is congress full of spineless worms? Ok, that was rhetorical, wasn’t it.
