Thought Loop

I find myself thinking (not for the first time) that there has to be something pretty big on Patrick Fitzgerald, the prosecutor running this investigation. Because otherwise, his appointment doesn’t make sense.
Think about it. Why would they hand over such a sensitive investigation to this guy unless they thought they could control him? That’s not how these thugs operate; we know enough about BushCo’s to know nothing happens for the obvious reasons and we can’t be naive enough to think Karl Rove had nothing to say about it.
So my guess is 1) they have dirt on the guy and they’ve been saving it as a kind of electric fence in case he strays too far off the reservation; 2) they’ve been threatening him all along and he won’t back off ; 3) Fitzgerald will help them mitigate something even bigger or 4) they’re so arrogant, they just assumed they could dig something up later because after all, isn’t everyone else as corrupt as they are?
What’s your best guess?

I am surprised to discover a few gems like Fitzgerald left by Ashcroft for the elements of the Bush team that I suspect he despised. There is almost surely more internal tension among these arrogant incompetents than our media coverage shows, and those leaving early - like Ashcroft - probably harbor some resentment. So, he did not write a book, he turned loose the hounds.
Since Sen. Roberts is initiating an investigation of Fitzgerald, I imagine that the Bushites have (or have created) something embarrassing to reveal. It may very well be a trumped-up scandal of the Swift Boat variety.
Hot man-on-dog action?
Susie,
I’ve heard that part of his appointment came from the fact that the Republicans in Illinois wanted to get rid of him because he was putting a lot of pressure on the George Ryan political machine there. I can’t remember where I read that, but I’m pretty sure I did somewhere.
miller went to jail, so cooper testified. the magazine recognized scotus as the rule of law and released cooper’s emails. it then went from a quiet behind the scenes thing to being in the public eye. i think it was a bunch of little things. including, they were a little preoccupied running for reelection.
Meanwhile, he’s also investigating the Daley machine in Chicago, apparently with some potentially significant results.
Indictments all around, pardons all around.
Before the trials, that is.
