And they wonder why readers prefer bloggers to their “professionals”:
A delegation from the Committee to Protect Journalists met with New York Times reporter Judith Miller - imprisoned for civil contempt for refusing to name a confidential source - and called for her release. Paul Steiger, CPJ chairman and managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, headed the delegation Thursday night that included Tom Brokaw of NBC News and CPJ Executive Director Ann Cooper, the CPJ reported on its Web site.
The group spoke with Miller for a half hour through a plastic partition at Alexandria Detention Center. “There’s no good purpose in keeping this dedicated, honorable, committed professional in jail,” Steiger said afterward. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas F. Hogan ordered Miller imprisoned on July 6 after she refused to testify about a confidential source before a grand jury investigating the 2003 leak of a CIA operative’s identity. Unless she decides to talk, Miller will be jailed until the grand jury ends its work in October.

So she’ll do about 90 days, huh? The penalty for vagrancy…
This is a joke, right? TBO must be like The Onion.

Separated at birth - Judith Miller and Bebe Glazer, Frasier Crane’s evil, bitchy, manipulative agent.
“There’s no good purpose in keeping this dedicated, honorable, committed professional in jail, Steiger said afterward.
They’re right. She should be executed.
Gee, Billmon, I was only going to suggest being tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail.
This is just showboating. They made the obligatory visit by the grand poobahs of the Committee to Protect Journalists, so that they can always say they “tried wholeheartedly”and were “deeply concerned” and “personally committed” to “resolving this vital issue” of the times.
All without discussing the elephant in the room — Judy Miller is not protecting a source. She is protecting Judy Miller from the consequences of violating the Espionage Act.
go read arianna post about miller’s time as embedded propagandist in iraq WMD mission. you can find it at huffington or kos.
