Brush with Stardom

They were looking for a Philadelphia blogger to appear on Tucker Carlson’s show the other night (about the Latoiya coverage), and a group email went out, asking if any of us could do it. For one reason or another, most said no. (I don’t know why everyone else did, but my reason was that I didn’t feel like combing my hair, putting on makeup and rushing downtown with so little notice. It was really hot, I hadn’t had a shower because of the broken hot water heater and I just wasn’t in the mood, as it were. )
I get frustrated with Tucker. He’s obviously very smart and at times he’s a real pleasure. But then he takes these cheap shots, or he glibly coasts through a discussion, only skimming the surface or throwing out the Official GOP Talking Points instead of original thought. You see enough of his intellect to tell when he’s dogging it - and he often does. If he was Bill O’Reilly, who obviously just can’t stop himself from being an asshole, it wouldn’t bother me so much.
Tucker knows better, I think.
And even though I really like Rachael Maddow, that nasty, sneering Ann Coulter-wannabe who appears on the show is just too annoying for words. As soon as she opens her mouth, I hit the mute button.
So anyway, I just wasn’t that motivated. (Steve “SpinDentist” Mingo volunteered for the thankless job as Designated Object of The Professional Media Lecture, and of course did us proud.)
As I was telling my friend last night at happy hour, the whole thing reminded me of those times where the bride tosses the bouquet and everyone just steps back and lets it fall to the floor. Kind of sad, but funny.

So, Susie, let’s ask this question: Does Tucker Carlson do his job in a manner consistent with both his share of media voice and the responsibility that goes along with that to shape a future that all of us — and he — would proudly hand to our children and their children?
Or, put differently, what kind of world is being shaped by Tucker Carlson that our children and their children will inherit?
Fuck Tucker
How much, if anything, would a gig like that pay?
Oh, they don’t PAY you. It’s just a great opportunity for self-promotion.
Be paid for appearing on TV? Heavens, what a concept!
