Reason du Jour

Bubble Boy comes up with something closer to the real reason to explain why we’re at war in Iraq:
CORONADO, Calif. — President Bush answered growing antiwar protests yesterday with a fresh reason for US troops to continue fighting in Iraq: protection of the country’s vast oil fields, which he said would otherwise fall under the control of terrorist extremists.
The president, standing against a backdrop of the USS Ronald Reagan, the newest aircraft carrier in the Navy’s fleet, said terrorists would be denied their goal of making Iraq a base from which to recruit followers, train them, and finance attacks.
”We will defeat the terrorists,” Bush said. ”We will build a free Iraq that will fight terrorists instead of giving them aid and sanctuary.”
”If Zarqawi and bin Laden gain control of Iraq, they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks,” Bush said. ”They’d seize oil fields to fund their ambitions. They could recruit more terrorists by claiming a historic victory over the United States and our coalition.”
Funny, how bin Laden had no influence in Iraq until the Boy King gave him the perfect entree…

Still, “control of the oil fields” hardly qualifies as a “new” reason.
why can’t we ask them why we are there ?
Wise people say fihting a war should begin from home. If U.S is there to protect the poor Iraqis from the clutches of Baa’thist, what they are doing to protect it’s people from Katrina
If it’s about civilizing the Arab barbarians, what you do with the people who looted New Orleans while a national disaster was happened

and how exactly will bin laden and zarqawi get those oil fields up and running? wouldn’t it be better if they were working on that rather than targeting us?
its a new “flypaper” theory–get bin laden a job with the oil industry. it will keep him busy drilling there so he can’t blow up people here!
“…they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks.”

Uh, I think WE’VE done a pretty good job of that already. No need for Zarqawi and bin Laden to get involved.
Hey I wonder if bin laden is getting his ideas from Gorgie boy. Seems like everytime he or one of his cronies speaks, the only ones listening are the ones that they’re claiming maybe planning it.
