Day is done
gone the sun
From the hills
from the lake
From the skies
All is well
safely rest
God is nigh.
I didn’t even know Uncle Jim was a vet. There was a military honor guard, and they played “Taps” at his graveside. They folded the flag and one of them handed it to my cousin Janet, saying, “The President of the United States thanks you for your father’s service to the country.”
It was a really powerful moment. I was surprised at how moved I was.
I can’t imagine what it’s like when the veteran you’re putting in the ground is your 20-year-old kid.
My sympathies to you and your family.
