Aw, shucks. That nice Mark Kleiman told his many readers to come over and give me money, but I don’t think they know why (and thus, don’t).
No, it’s not some major disaster. It’s just the plain old quiet economic devastation of long-term unemployment. After two years of either unemployment or only sporadic work, I’m finally about to start a new job - but I’m flat broke and need money for train fare, lunch, etc. until I get my first check.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks for stopping by.

OMG, if I ever get a bazillion dollars, this is what my foundation would do: disburse smallish grants of cash with the express purpose of heading off larger economic emergencies. I might call the foundation something like “First, Last & Security”, because sometimes the first and last month’s rent and security deposit is the only money necessary to keep someone from homelessness.
For you, it’d be enough money to take care of what you need for three months, after which you’d have been able to stash a small amount of your paycheck, enough to get back on solid ground.
I have this whole plan. I just need the bazillion dollars.
Good luck, dear. Hey, what’s the dress code at this new place? Do you have to wear girly clothes? Shall I keep a lookout for suitable working-gal attire, or do you get to dress like a regular person?
Remember to tuck a subway token and a dollar inside of your shoe.
