Jesus. If this is true (after all, this is Robert Novak), the Democratic leadership ought to be horsewhipped. Al “Torture is Cool” Gonzales is the one we promise not to filibuster?
When the hell are they going to realize that as a minority party, we don’t have to agree to anything?
Robert Novak reports Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) “has informed” Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) “that Federal Appeals Court Judge Priscilla Owen will be filibustered if President Bush names her to replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor on the Supreme Court.
“Republican senators are divided on whether former Texas Supreme Court Justice Owen is vulnerable because she underwent a filibuster for the appellate seat and was confirmed under the compromise agreement. Frist is known to believe Owen can be confirmed in the face of a filibuster.
“Republican Senate strategists believe Attorney General Alberto Gonzales is the only possible Bush nominee to replace O’Connor who would not face a filibuster.”
The AP says President Bush “extended invitations Friday to key Senate leaders to meet at the White House next week to discuss” the O’Connor’s spot on the bench.

I think you hit it on the head at the beginning: this is Robert Novak talking. And he’s quoting a Repubican strategist. So they’re playing some sort of propaganda game.
I have the same problem with Gonzoles that I have with Roberts. They’ve both shown a penchant for granting the executive office unlimited powers.
Not my idea of checks and balances.
Jeff
With a population of 300 million these are the only 2 people qualifed to serve on the supreme court?
Hell no.
I’m more qualified than they are.
And I’m not a judge, lawyer, attorney, barrister, solicitor, legal counsel, or mouthpiece.
