I didn’t get the joke, I’m afraid. To me it just looked like what a lot of conservatives are accused of doing - protesting someone’s politics not by criticizing those politics but by insulting the physical appearance of one of their family members (usually female).
I agree. No one has to like the idea of Roberts as CJ of the USSC, and I don’t (although, God knows, GWB has far more repellent friends with law licenses), but insulting his family seems a bit much. Moreover, as someone who was required in his boyhood to wear little sportcoat and shorts combos (and survived the incumbent humiliation) I can assure you that the poor kid dodn’t pick it himself.
