Gettysburg

Today is the 150th anniversary. A friend of mine is a historical document dealer, he had a notebook from a soldier who was there. In the very last bit of room, on the back cover, the soldier wrote, “They say there will be a great battle here tomorrow.” He was right.

  1. The battle itself was from 1 – 3 July 1864. Nothing really happened on 28 June. On 26 June Jubal Early’s troops occupied Gettysburg. There were of course other pre-battle maneuvers going on in late June, but the battle itself began on 1 July.

  2. Headed there on Monday for the anniversary re-enactments. They are expecting around 10,000 people in that little town each of the first 10 days of July. should be very exciting.
