Et Tu, Brutus?

Boy, Robert Byrd must not care about the welfare of coal miners as much as I thought he did. I mean, why else would he feel it necessary to support a big-business pal like Alito for the Supreme Court?

You can’t have been in office in WV as long as Byrd has without being in the pocket of the coal business.
Aside from his speeches about Iraq which are based more on his feelings for the perogatives of the congress than about any noble motives. (And I am vertually certain are being written for him by somebody with a philsophy alien to his), Byrd is just another conservative southern democrat.
He is the last and the least (thank God) of the old southern racist senators like Stennis, Long, Ervin and Thurmond. He got his leadership postion by creeping around with a little book writing down all the favors he did and studying up on the twists and turns of the Senate rules. When the time came, he called in all the favors and got himself elected Majority Leader for a while. Most of his power is just based on living a long time and doing whatever his masters wanted him to do.
He already voted for the bankruptcy bill, John Roberts and Patricia Owen, because he likes the idea of parental notification.
I live in West Virginia, and I won’t vote for him this fall. I don’t care if Satan himself runs against him, and John Raese is close.
Or Rockefeller either.
Poor Mr. Byrd. The whores he has to associate with just so he can get in the record books. It’s shameful I tell ya’, just shameful.
