Time for a second third political party, that is. How does “New Democratic Party” sound to you?
Unfuckingbelievable. If this is true (can’t confirm yet), it looks like Sen. Ken Salazar cut his own little deal with Dr. James Dobson about the filibuster:
If he’s so worried about this extreme judge, what’s his problem with supporting a filibuster? I asked the staffer that, and then something happened that blew my fucking mind.
He hesitated for a moment, and then said the following:
I understand your concerns and I feel the same way. The truth is that Senator Salazar has come to a compromise with Dr. James Dobson about an ongoing feud between them. Dr. Dobson has agreed to stop mentioning Senator Salazar in a negative context if he refuses to filibuster Samuel Alito.
I was stunned and speechless, so all I could say was, “What?”
The staffer went on:
I’m sorry, but that’s the truth, and that’s why this is my last day working for Senator Salazar.
UPDATE: Oh, what the fuck. As a reader pointed out, I can’t prove anything and besides, their mailboxes (Reid’s and Salazar’s) are already full. I’ll follow up tomorrow.

Susie, you just said “can’t confirm yet” and then you tell your readers to get on the phone and start making threats.
Take a chill pill.
“How does “New Democratic Partyâ€? sound to you?”
It sounds pretty good. That’s who I voted for on Monday. Course I’m in a different country.
you know… sometimes it seems like we’re so close… so close… and then what happens? let’s say that republicans speak with one mind and democrats are divided. republicans don’t open their mouths as often and say stupid things. so let’s a dem says a stupid thing. what happens next? i’m really asking. is it the right-wing noise machine that endlessly spins it and pounds it into america’s brain?
i am really starting to think, on a conscious level, that, in the words of obe one, “these are not the dems you’re looking for.” maybe they’re undisciplined. maybe it’s the GOP verses many individual dems running around. how do we go from looking strong to looking like fools in one week? the filibuster threat now looks like a lot of hot air covering an empty threat.
why does it only take the president to speak in complete sentences for his poll numbers to go up? why does nobody care there’s a terror alert every time his poll numbers go down? how many aspects of american society does the bush administration have to screw for people to care? how many laws does he have to break? how much authority does he have to claim? how much lack of oversight?
mental sigh. and to think. a decade ago… the 90s… “but that was before 9/11″… when america revealed itself to be scared little children who are willing to let king george destroy our civil liberties in order to save them. they really just don’t care, do they? you can just see them smirking 24/7. where is the discipline to take any one of the options we’ve had in the past 6 months and beat the administration relentlessly with it until they cave? do we need to start fighting dirty? spend years rebuilding the whole democratic structure and pretend these eight years were just a bad dream or a bad trip? is this country really so divided that the majority of americans like this country just the way it is?
so many questions.
Don’t blame me, I voted for Mike Miles.
The Kos commenters (according to Jeralyn at TalkLeft) are pretty well convinced this is/was a hoax.
Not worth wasting pixels on.
The thought of a new party isn’t a bad one the problem is that the system is so entrenched that any party other than the Democratic and Republican face such a hard time getting on the ballot with very high signature numbers needed on the petitions.
As for the deal if it’s true it does seem a strange one for either side and supporters of both the Senator and of Dobson should be upset.
It at least that would have given Salazar an excuse, even a very bad one, for stating out loud that he was against a filibuster.
did he or didn’t he?
