Some See The Light, Some Have To Feel The Heat

Just got off a conference call with Senator Ted Kennedy, and someone asked a really good question: Why won’t all the Democratic senators support the filibuster, which is, after all, only more discussion?
Kennedy said the press coverage has convinced many senators that supporting a filibuster will be seen as obstructionism, saying, “Look what happened to Tom Daschle.” The holdouts are the ones who think they risk losing at the polls.
He said that’s not a realistic factor, that making a principled stand on a constitutional issue and citing it as a matter of conscience will not be seen by the voters as a liability (and since he’s been in the Senate longer than most people, I assume he knows what he’s talking about).
He also thanked bloggers “for what you’ve done, and what you’re going to continue to do.” Well, you know what we’ll continue to do. Call your senator’s office today; we’ll have more numbers Monday.
UPDATE: For all you New Jersey folks, he said Lautenberg and Menendez are undecided. Help them make up their minds!

If they don’t do anything they will be called “weak” by the media. If they act they will be called “obstructionist” or “partisan”.
Why is so difficult to see that no matter what Democrats do, the media will pick up on the GOP’s nasty name-calling? And of course, the Republicans will never catch hell no matter how disgusting the name-calling gets.
Esaund,
Get on the phone and let your senators know you aren’t interested in their excuses. I was on that call with Susie. Kennedy said pressure from the constituents works.
just emailed my senator.
I’m one of those Massachusetts libruls - and yes, I routinely e-mail K & K to say what I think.
