Funny, Yet Not

Thank God for Resolution No. 2. I don’t have to deal with crap like this (although it does strike me as a good way to separate real men from the assholes):
Research to be published this week in a leading academic journal confirms what many female comics - and funny women - have long suspected: men are frightened by their brand of humour. While men might chuckle at the odd gag, when it comes to finding a long-term companion they do not want a partner who will fire a stream of witty repartee at them, according to the study carried out by academics at some of the world’s top universities.
“Men see being funny as a male thing,” explained Dr Rod Martin, who led the project. The findings are published in the scientific journal Evolution and Human Behaviour this week.

Um, I love funny ladies. A bit more humor is a bit more intelligent. Does that make me liberal or weak, somehow?
Resolution No. 2 doesn’t sound funny or fun though!
Me personally, I suspect that this is why I’m a spinster and without a child.
Yeah, like I believe this. I am male and most of the time care not what folks, male or female, say about me but I gotta admit it’s embarassing to say the least when members of my gender say and act like the idiots most of them are…..
Did you know that if you laugh on a regular basis you live longer?
I mean you are talking about englishmen and scots and canucks so umm? And Resolution duo?
…”Massimiliano Pusceddu, praised the premier for what he described as a defense of family values and promised that his followers would support the conservative leader because “if the left wins it will be the moral end for this country.”"…
So today it’s resolution II ’cause of the family values excuse …. c’mon!!! and if you break II it’s the moral end of the country? … I think we should all do our part for the moral end, I mean if the right would win it would logically follow that it would be the immoral end right?
Oh, Susie, it’s not that simple. Plenty of real men are real assholes, too.
I think intimidation is the key concern, here. A witty woman is a smart woman who might turn on her guy and make him feel inferior and dumb.
Men who do appreciate their female partner’s humor are usually more secure, mature and educated than the average guy…. They hold their mates in high esteem and aren’t intimidated.
A woman would do well to find a man who enjoys her humor, says Nilsen, because that’s an indication of his own self-esteem and willingness to be supportive.
Marriage researchers concur. Relationship expert John Gottman, co-founder of the Gottman Institute in Seattle, has found that when humor plays a role in diffusing tension and conflict, marriages tend to last longer. Additional studies show that people who joke with their spouses in everyday situations tend to be happier in their marriage than couples who don’t. Psychology Today
In short, a woman shouldn’t settle on a guy who doesn’t value her humor.

According to the men in my not-so-distant past, I was always too much of something or not enough of something else.
I figured with the deck stacked like that, I couldn’t win. So I was going to live life on my own terms. Oddly enough, real guys don’t seem to have a problem with that (or me) - and I’ve been a lot happier.
And by the way, I’m funny as shit.
We know you are very funny, but shit isn’t funny — it just happens.
