Go Dems Go

Sources indicate that Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has been vexed by the filibuster push, saying that Democrats can’t bring in the votes and the move could backfire. Others, including Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), say Democrats failed to explain to the public why Democrats opposed Alito.
Wrote AP, “To more effectively oppose Supreme Court nominees in the future, Democrats need to convince the public ‘their values are at stake’ rather than use stalling tactics to try to thwart the president, said a senator who opposes Samuel Alito’s confirmation.”
Obama, however, still intends to join the filibuster attempt.

UPDATE: Okay, NJ, nice work. We’ve got Lautenberg in the “No” column on Alito votes, and Menendez is joining him. Still don’t know where they stand on the filibuster but I’ll put it up when I find out. In the meantime, call and tell them to say no on cloture.
UPDATE: Mark Dayton (OH) will support the filibuster. Looks like Florida’s Bill Nelson will, too.

The Clinton Administration worked out a compromise with the Timber Industry over clearcutting in some of the western national forests - Clinton wouldn’t allow just a slash and burn and rape of our precious resources - he took 100% off the table and started from there. The compromise was allowing a cut/take of just 20% a year thus saving 80% for the publics use - Do the math - at 20% a year in 5 years the forest would need a hair piece.
“In the future after Republicans have appointed and we have confirmed 9 justices then we’ll say THIS FAR AND NO FURTHER!” Aren’t we tough guys? Let’s go have a drink.
Mark Dayton is from Minnesota.
And he’s standing up for principles as he exits politics for a better life for himself and his children.
Looks like he’s going to show some class on his way out the door.
