Good:
With the National Constitution Center as his backdrop, Gov. Rendell used Presidents’ Day to announce his veto of a bill that would require all voters to show identification whenever they go to the polls.
Seated in front of a dozen of the city’s African American leaders, Democrats all, Rendell said at a news conference that House Bill 1318 would have the effect of denying some people their right to vote.
The legislation, he said, would discourage voting at a time when “we should be doing everything we can to increase voter participation.”

Nice, considering we have “liberal” arguing in the NY Times today that we should have to have national identity cards.See http://snipurl.com/nat_id
Way to go Ed!!!! We have to make sure all those dead people can still vote.
To have fair elections we need every vote counted and verified, i.e. paper trail, and every voter id. This bill was so watered down on the id requirement it was a joke anyway but it was a start and should be law.
Hey John
I wonder how often my dad voted since ‘67
He died in August of that year,&,honest to God, I think of stolen ID from time to time when I go to Forest Hills.
Know of any way to find out?
I have one thing to say to anyone making the claims of dead people voting, aliens voting, people voting twice, etc… ‘Prove it or shut up’.
In a report after the 2004 election the American Center for Voting Rights Legislative Fund said Philadelphia was the #1 voting fraud site in the country. Amoung the problems they found were at least 15 new voter registrations for dead people; numerous voter registrations where the address was for a vacant lot or boarded up building. Also it seems the voter registration number in Philadelphia almost matchs the census estimate for the eligible population. All I can say is what a city that everyone cares so much to register.
Plus there was additional problems like polling places in politicians offices and ward leaders homes.
This issue is just a distraction.
We don’t even know that the votes that were cast are counted. Actually it’s seeming pretty likely that the whole show is fixed. So what’s the point of resisting ID at the polls?
If we worry too much about “some [miniscule number of] people” who might want to vote without identification, it makes us either look stupid or like the ones who are trying to cheat, or both.
Lets not lose focus here.
