Support the Troops

Seventy two percent of U.S. troops in Iraq believe the United States should pull out within one year, a column by Nicholas Kristof in Tuesday’s New York Times reveals. The poll was conducted by Zogby International and is the first poll to examine the attitudes of those currently serving in the wartorn nation.
The full poll is available here.

The important statistic is this one:
According to Zogby, which conducted the poll with New York’s Le Moyne College, 85 percent of the troops say a major reason for the U.S. mission is “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9/11 attacks.”
So 85 percent of the troops have exactly the wrong idea about what the reason for the US mission is. That percentage is way higher than even the general public’s.
We should not have attacked Iraq in the first place and have worn out our welcome. It’s a no-brainer that it is time to get out of there.
