Lord, those conspiracy theorists are tiresome. From the “There’s no way that WTC 7 could have collapsed!” people who don’t realize that WTC 7 was bridged over a ConEd substation to the “butbutbut the fire wasn’t hot enough to melt steel” knotheads who have never come within 1000 meters of a strength of material textbook, it’s all kooks all the way down.
I’ve seen pictures of steel trolleycars that were in carbarn fires, where despite the fire only being about 1600 degrees the cars still collapsed around their trucks (Napa Valley #60 comes to mind, but it’s almost always true that once a steel streetcar has been in a carbarn fire it’s not worth anything except as scrap metal.) It would be less embarrassing if these WTC conspiracy theorists would actually consult with engineers instead of random bystanders who’s only qualification is that they distrust the B*sh junta.
The term “conspiracy theorist” is so foolish and smugly dismissive.
The official explanation is itself a conspiracy theory.
Most elements of the official explanation make no sense, and don’t square with reality or science. Why is it irrational to question the official story?
Why did Bush try to prevent an inquiry?
And why was the eventual inquiry so limited in scope?
Isn’t it interesting how dramatically 9/11 has benefited BushCo politically and economically?
The New York Magazine article is more of a comprehensive look at the kooks around the theories, rather than the theories themselves. Too many questions unanswered for my tastes.
Those who will not bear questions, are those who have the most to answer.
That article was weak as far as I’m concerned. While I may not believe that Bush planned the whole bit (I think the argument cited in article about look at what Bush has done in Iraq, those guys could never pull that off), I’m sure that there is a whole lot we don’t know about what happened. I wish the article wouldn’t have been so concerned in proving that these conspiracy theorists (I hate that term) are all nut-jobs, and a little more concerned addressing the points put forth by them.
