Settling In

My friend Brendan went to IKEA with me yesterday to help me pick up some big bookcase for my kitchen. (God, are those things heavy.) Spent most of the day putting it together and did more unpacking last night. I was thrilled to finally find something that’s been missing since the last move - a box with all my song lyrics. Useful, because it’s hard to perform songs you can’t remember. (Mixed in among the lyrics was some old correspondence with the Live X, which reminded me in some jarringly painful detail just why he’s the ex. I ripped them up. It was good to read them, though, because sometimes I still miss him.)
I also dropped an IKEA shelving extender unit while trying to put it on top of the bookcase, and it landed hard, right on the back of my neck. Fortunately, I’m not paralyzed (I checked when I woke up this morning - I can feel all my toes and fingers). But my neck really, really hurts. Did the ibuprofen-and-ice routine and will repeat as needed.
Moving really sucks, as everyone who’s done it already knows. Not the actual change (because I like that part), but the logistics of settling into a new space. I’m making progress but not fast enough to suit me. I wish I could wave a magic wand and be done with it. Oh well.
So what are you doing this weekend?

I’m celebrating the big 5-0, ingesting lots of red meat and sugar!
Laundry and paper-work catch-up.
I’m going to go out and run…(jog) 5 or 6 miles. I did a 5K run in Lawrence yesterday and it was really fun. I hadn’t done any kind of race in a number of years and my running has dwindled as my weight has gone up.
If you don’t hear from me anymore, it is because I had a heart attack on the run. See ya.

No heart attack.

Spent Saturday chasing my daughter, if I only had the energy of a 19 month old I can’t imagine how much I would get done. Today it was time to clean out the garage…oh what fun.
