One In the Win Column

I was at a friend’s birthday party tonight (happy birthday, Lasagna!) and spent a sizeable portion of the evening standing in a corner by the beer cooler, talking (what else?) politics with Duncan.
As you can imagine, he was just tickled about Ned Lamont getting on the ballot in Connecticut. “It’s not often that we get wins, so this was a great one,” he said with a wide grin. “And it was so cool, hearing these people walk up to the podium and say, ‘I want to cast our two ballots for Ned Lamont.’ It was really fun.”
We were also talking about the press. As usual, I contended it was about high school and it was as if all of a sudden, bloggers were the cheerleaders and football players. Duncan said no, we were still the nerds and geeks but we’d gone off and started a really cool pirate radio station, and showed we didn’t need them. (Which I thought was actually a better description.)

With podcasts, blogs, myspace and other techie things the days of pirate radio are probably over. But Pump Up The Volume is still one of my favorite films.
