When You Have Nothing to Hide, You Hide Nothing

Seems to me the Republicans have a lot more reason to worry about the FBI searching their offices than the Democrats (*cough* Denny Hastert *cough*) and that’s why the indignant stand on separation of powers - the first time in six years they’ve remembered that particular principle.
They have rubberstamped every single power BushCo demanded that would impinge on the privacy of the ordinary citizens, and now they’re squealing like stuck pigs. Interesting.

They may have a Constitutional point. It is the first time the FBI has raided a congressional office, as far as anyone has heard of. There are certain clauses in the Constitution that deal with the activities of elected members of congress. I’ll try to read more on it later.
Well it may be too late to do anything. With the Bush Administration using the claim of state secrets to quash court cases, raiding Congress may be the final act of intimidation. It’ll be interesting to see what happens. If anyone in Congress truly fights back with investigations, cutting the purse, and other means.
