Comic Book Writer

Go read Digby about our new top domestic policy advisor. As you might expect, he’s perfectly suited for the job: He hates journalists (thinks they’re whiny and soft) and writes combat comic books! Woo hoo! Old Bubble Boy’s hit the jackpot on this one.

Perhaps you should try to read some current comic books or graphic novels before you slam comic writers. While Bush’s appointee might not be a good writer, that doesn’t mean there aren’t good ones out there.
Look up some work done by Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, From Hell, Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) or Grant Morrison (Doom Patrol, Invisibles, New X-Men) or even Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Books of Magic, Death).
All of these are amazing writers whose work is complex and thoughtful and can reach all age groups. Thank you.
uh, i think the point was, being a comic writer, whether good or not, is hardly a qualification for being the domestic policy advisor to a US president.
I love comic books. And what could be better preparation for BushCo than living in a fantasy world of your own design?
Yes, there are some very well written comic books around today. In fact, some of the old comic book authors were good too, for example Will Eisner.
However, this particular author does not appear to be up to that standard.
From what I have read, his comic books are crude and full of stereotypical characters, as though he had taken a mass market 1950s WWII comic book and just changed all the placenames into Arabic.
Of course, as Susie says, this would probably be considered as evidence of his qualification for the job. What with Dubya now presenting himself as the second coming of Harry Truman…
