The Sister Souljah Moment

I was at this speech. This is a complete and total fabrication - but then, what else can you expect from Republicans? (Via Mahablog, who was there, too.)
Nobody booed the troops. They were chanting “Support the troops!” and “Bring them home!” This kneejerk wingnut who most likely finds liberal traitors behind his toilet tank prefers to think - no, know that Democrats are assholes who: 1) are completely lacking in humanity and really, really, really want soldiers to die (even though of course we want to save every criminal from the electric chair because, um, we hate freedom); 2) Hillary Clinton is the one who’s trying to protect the troops because after all, she does want them to have body armor for Pee Wee’s Big Iraq Adventure and 3) that the so-called mainstream media they villify on a regular basis “has our back” (direct quote) on this story.
Really? Not so’s I’d notice:
But then she came to Iraq. “I do not think it is a smart strategy,” she said, “neither for the President to continue with his open-ended commitment, which I think does not put enough pressure on the new Iraqi government, nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain.” Members of the crowd yelled, “Why not?” There was loud booing. It was almost impossible to hear Clinton as she spoke over the crowd to declare, “I do not agree that that is in the best interest of our troops or our country.” After her speech, as Clinton was walking along the stage and shaking hands with attendees who had rushed to meet her, more than a dozen members of the crowd stood and started chanting “Bring the troops home! Bring the troops home!”
Funny how someone who wasn’t even there can take the same paragraph, view it through an ideological prism and come to a completely different (and erroneous) conclusion. No, no one booed the troops. We booed Hillary, who has one opinion. We have another.
I have to give Hillary credit, though. We were talking at the conference, wondering why she even wanted to address this particular crowd. After all, most liberals are disgusted with her position on the war.
Then we came to a consensus: She was after the headline, and she got it. “Hillary Booed by Liberals on War.” Perfect. Her Sister Souljah moment! It worked like a charm. Hillary “Thatcher” Clinton.
Duped by a Clinton. How ironic is that? So go ahead, little wingnuts. Spread the news!
UPDATE: Taylor Marsh explains it all for the slow ones.

My take on Senator Clinton is that she understands the strategic importance of maintaining 50,000 Peace Keepers in Iraq more or less forever and ever. That, of course, is IF Iraq can be salvaged, and it MUST be salvaged. This is all about oil. What effect do you think a 5-percent decline in oil production would have on the economy? How about a 10-percent?
Start with Matthew Simmons’ “Twilight in the Desert”. Then look at Ronald Cooke’s “Oil, Jihad, and Destiny”. (Consider Simmons advisory role in both the Clinton and Bush administrations. You might not agree with their end politics, but these guys are not crackpots.)
Consider the impact that escalating energy prices are going to have on a country with massive escalating deficits, a country with massive on-going Peace Keeping expenses. We are so fucked.
I’m sorry I’m so disillusioned. WHAT EFFECTS IS ALL THIS GOING TO HAVE ON DOMESTIC PROGRAMS IN A FEW YEARS?
The only candidate I can see who appears to recognize this and who appears to have the experience and guts to try to mitigate the coming problems is Al Gore. He’s not a candidate? Yeah, right. I don’t think Al Gore has a choice about running. The need is that great. And the need is that urgent.
Senator Clinton learned well from Bill, say what ever it takes to fool the people. She is clearly positioning herself back to center because she knows that the vocal left wing nuts howl, but don’t vote. Historical records prove this. Howard Dean did not understand this and embraced the left wing and lost. As far as the oil situation goes…perhaps if we had of drilled in ANWAR, and off our own coasts, we would not be so dependent on the Middle East. Or maybe if we had built more nuclear power plants, refineries, hydroelectric dams, windmills, new cleaner burning coal electic facilities, etc, all things the wackos stop with thier endless lawsuits, we could better control our own destinies. Last, I can only hope that you are successful in the recruitment of Al Gore. Every day more evidence comes out to show his “inconvenient truth” to be full of holes. By the time the 08 elections role around, he will be going around saying “I meant gobal cooling, really…you gotta belive me”
