Only two days 12 hours left in the Draft Gore $5 primary. Guess it’s not sounding quite as farfetched as it did a month ago, huh? If you haven’t pledged yet, go put your money where your mouth is.
In the meantime, there’s a great new Gore interview in Rolling Stone. Does this man sound too cautious to get your vote?
Q. Did it seem like a smart move, strategically, at that point?
Well, if you define the word “smart” in an antiseptic and clinical way that excludes any ethical dimension, then, yeah, I guess it was smart. Smart, if you’re willing to say things that you know are not true. But that’s what Karl Rove is known for. Bush’s whole pose as a compassionate conservative was fraudulent. His budget was fraudulent. Even the idea that he would be staunchly opposed to nation building was fraudulent. I don’t mean that he actually knew at the time of the campaign that he was going to invade Iraq — because I don’t think Cheney had told him yet [laughs]. But the statement on global warming, and the specific pledge to reduce CO2 emissions with the force of law, was part of a larger pattern. He was completely fraudulent from head to toe.
By the way, some folks contend that Gore will once again be savaged by the media, and we shouldn’t bother. First of all, boys and girls, the media will go after any Democrat we put up. (Even if we ran Jesus Christ at the top of the ticket.) Second, the moviegoing public will now have something with which to compare the media version. When they go after him, the people who have seen the movie are going to say, “I find that hard to believe. He seems like a nice, decent guy to me.” And if you don’t think that’s worth its weight in gold, you’re not paying attention.

Okay, I did it. I donated $5 to the Draft Gore PAC. I truly feel like he won’t run…but on the off chance that he will…besides, I just feel like I have to do ’something’….

By way of C&L, I just donated $5. Thanks for the heads up.
Your money’s going into a black hole. This is a nifty scam. I’ve rediscovered my love for Gore as well, but in part because he cares enough about this issue to refuse to politicize it by running again. If he folded on that, he’d lose my vote.

what kind of sense does this make? if an intelligent, diligent, caring, thoughtful man runs for president, just because he had a previous pet project (which would be part of his presidential agenda) decided to run for president, he would lose your vote? it’s this kind of narrow-minded, pigeon hole thinking that has given us an idiot for a president. intelligent people respond to changing needs…they don’t stay the course. pay attention to where “stay the course” has brought us. al gore doesn’t like “politics”. he is a humanitarian. he says he’s not running but if he decides to change his mind and run, it is because he sees a need that he feels he can fill for the good of all. right or left…this insistence on a person to never change, to remain as they have always been, is ignorant and infantile.
a person worthy of your support is one capable of critical thinking and the willingness to adapt to effectively accomplish the job at hand. any person not willing to change course when new facts are presented, is incompetent, insecure and not worthy of a leadership role. case in point: george bush and his administration. i am not interested in any republican or democrat leadership with same such “commitment”.
Great speech, Donna. I hope you’re going to volunteer for the Draft Gore campaign!
I’ma fairly die hard Libertarian but Gore is really starting to win me over.Where did this warm, relaxed, engaging guy come from? It’s like there were two Gores; the stiff over formal lecturer and this new guy. I don’t know if I would pitch in to the PAC but it is on my mind now, where a few months ago I wouldn’t have even considered it.
I’ve had a high opinion of Al Gore since I read “Earth in the Balance” back in ‘92. At that time I thought that a Gore/Clinton ticket was what the US needed. Now I think Gore/Feinstein would do just fine.
