The Good News

The reason we don’t hear any good news from Iraq is, there isn’t any. And even the Republicans are starting to admit it, if only because they’re afraid they’re going to lose the mid-terms. Arthur Silber:
What is infinitely worse, the story makes absolutely clear that the Republicans’ extremely grudging concessions to the starkly obvious reality of Iraq now are only the result of election-year strategy. For example: “Sen. John Thune (S.D.) told reporters at the National Press Club that if he were running for reelection this year, ‘you obviously don’t embrace the president and his agenda.’” And: “Republicans, especially those in swing districts, had no choice but to shift the emphasis of their war talk, lawmakers said. ‘The Iraq issue is the lens through which people are looking at the federal government,’ said Rep. Charles W. Dent (Pa.), another swing-district Republican. ‘That is the issue to most people. There’s no question about that.’”
It’s not what’s right for the Iraqis, or even for our troops: No, the only issue is what will get Republicans elected. These people are entirely contemptible.

“To pretend the war is resolving itself nicely is no longer an option, he (Charlie Dent) said.” Pretence was all it was ever about, Charlie. Can’t wait to vote against you in the fall.
Hello, My name is Spc. Patrick Ziegler from U.S. Central Command. While it is not my place to get involved with any political debates or discussions, I would like to invite your readers to visit the U.S. Central Command website at http://www.centcom.mil . The CENTCOM site, especially the News Room, is a great place to get up-to-date information about what is going on not only in Iraq but all of Centcom’s Area of Responsibility and the Global War on Terror.
Spc. Ziegler, your job is entirely political and
propagandistic, so please don’t be so disingenuous.
