You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore.

i’m just curious….by why should we try to “soothe” these people?
oops….(this) one should really read more carefully. : )
Arthur Silber’s main point cannot be emphasized enough: “We have no right to be in Iraq in the first plaace.” What will it take for the pusillanimous Democrats to comprehend this smmple statement? Will these same Democrats manage to become a unified front and repeat this message both in ‘06 and ‘08? Or will they shrink in terror and begin to wilt as the Republicans accuse them of being soft on national security? Representative Kucinich is one of the few politicians to have the good sense to call for a withdrawal from Iraq {I almost typed in the word Vietnam} as quickly and as rapidly as possible. If only those in the Senate were able to follow and emulate what Kucinich has done.
You know. Generally, I like Arthur’s stuff. But I think he is off base here. Although it is phrased inelegantly, I think what the Congressional Dems are trying to do is not put pressure on the Iraqi government. But to point out in clear terms that the Iraqi government handpicked and installed at great cost by our Republican overlords is not really our ally, or our friend, but another typical bunch of Israel-hating Muslims. New boss, same as the old boss. We spent billions of dollars, thousands of our soldiers lives and have NOTHING to show for it. All the talk of a free Iraq is a farce.
It is all part of making the point that American lives and money HAVE been wasted on this war. I think it is a particularly passive-aggressive, “aren’t we all reasonable people here” way to make that point. But still, even the most ardent hawk would have to admit that the new Iraqi government is hardly a friend to Israel. Or really, in any way, willing to do our bidding in the Middle East.
