Oops, I Did It Again

I seem to have set off an intellectual flame war over at Jay Rosen’s place. The regulars there seem to think it’s impossible to be a partisan news editor and still produce factually correct, credible work that readers will support financially.
It’s hot, I’m cranky and frankly, these arguments bore me. If you do good work, you’re fearless, write well and you’re open about your intentions, people will read you and you will have served your country well.
Do I really need to write a doctoral thesis saying that?
(Funny story: Years ago, I was trying to help a friend with her thesis by editing it. She showed it to her advisor, who informed her it was, uh, written too clearly and therefore, no one would take it seriously. Story of my life.)
