Wonderful graphic. I just finished assembling two IKEA items for my daughter this weekend. The first was a desk, which wasn’t bad at all. The second was a 6′ by 6′ bookcase, which had me muttering by the time it was finished. I’m assuming this is similar to the one that almost made mincemeat of Susie. Yes, it likes to try to dis-assemble itself at the least opportunity, but being of stubborn, analytical mind, I beat it into submission.
I’ve been assembling this kind of stuff for almost 40 years now, and overall, I didn’t think the IKEA versions were that bad, compared to some of the things that have collapsed in my past. But I can certainly understand how mistakes happen - my 40 years experience and my slow, careful approach (see mind above) are highly useful with this kind of stuff. For my own house, I only buy Scandinavian Designs better bookcases when I can afford them. They’re very solid kits that assemble without problems.
I hope your bookcase will not sit there plotting to do you in, Susie, but if you were in California, you’d definitely be attaching it securely to the wall…
Incidentally, this was my first time at IKEA….gack.

There’s another problem with IKEA — no stability
in their product line.
I can’t augment my set of Billy shelves (one of their most popular and best-constructed
lines), because they have discontinued the oak veneer
finish, and discontinued the medium-width size as well.
Why?
The’ve also stopped carrying spare mounting
brackets for their wooded mini-blinds.
