Much Ado About Little Ricky

I’m not worried about Little Ricky closing the gap. Casey’s barely started advertising and Santorum’s already into the negative-ad phase. Why? Because like Richard Gere in “An Officer and A Gentlemen,” he’s got no place else to go!
He’s still got high negatives. They’re flat, and they’ll stay that way. Pennsylvania voters are simply waiting to see who Casey is, and as long as he doesn’t scare old ladies and small children, he has their vote.
I can’t go anywhere these days without hearing people make nasty cracks about Republicans - the kind of people who don’t normally pay attention to politics. This doesn’t bode well for the Republican incumbents. (The congressional polls are consistently in favor of the Democrats.)
Add to that the likelihood that voters know at least one person who’s been in Iraq, and the reasons to vote Republican aren’t there.

Precisely. People are getting all up in it with Casey’s 23 point lead down to 5. But, look where Santorum has gone — NO WHERE. In this Keystone Poll Satorum actually LOST a point from the last one.
Santorum hasn’t been able to reliably break 40% in these polls and you can’t win elections at 40%.
Casey needs to make himself known (so ironic to say that, but it is true) and he’ll do just fine.
I’d like to see him develop a more positive stump speech, the one I’ve seen is heavy on Santorum-bad, Me-not-Santorum, and light on new ideas and leadership.
