Any mention of Phil Ochs always spooks me. I was in college and had never heard of him. One afternoon, I met with some other students for a Sociology project in a dorm room and Phil’s name came up. One of his songs was played on a guitar and I loved it. When I got home that evening, I turned on the radio and another Phil Ochs song was playing. When it was over, the DJ said Phil had committed suicide that afternoon. And I got to hear most of the Ochs’ songbook under very sad conditions.
