I was on vacation, sitting in my lady friend’s apartment at Spring and Mulberry Streets in Manhattan, about a mile and a half from the Trade Center. I was sipping a cup of coffee when I heard the first plane.
Looking out the 5th-floor window, I watched in horror as the airliner raced down the island, a few blocks to my west. “He’s gonna hit the fucking building!” I screamed to no one in general, although my outburst startled my lady friend’s cat and maybe a few passers-by on the street below.
I watched as the huge plane hit the North Tower, disappering completely into its side. And I felt a flash of heat on my face as the side of the building exploded in a fireball.
I lost four close friends in the Trade Center, only to have them mocked by the charlatan from Washington a few days later.
I don’t need an ad to remind me.
