Running Government Like A Business

Don’t worry, we can always outsource the whole thing to Halliburton:
WASHINGTON — A series of steep cuts in aeronautics research at NASA threaten to undermine the nation’s aviation industry and delay a new air traffic system needed to prevent gridlock in the skies, according to members of Congress, industry officials and scientific leaders.
Groups of lawmakers from both parties, academics and aerospace leaders say the reductions are hampering NASA’s ability to develop new aviation technology.
“I think it’s almost criminal,” said Roy Harris, retired head of aeronautics at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia. “We are dropping the ball.”

Yup, there’s been some talk of privatizing the air traffic control system.
This is how all these GOP procedures work: starve the entity of needed funds until it’s doing such a poor job that it’s easy to justify privatizing it.
I was born in 1963 so I was old enough to remember man walking on the moon. Then Nixon cut back a couple of the Apollo missions. They retired the awesome, 100% reliable track record Saturn rocket for the overhyped Space Shuttle which hasn’t met it’s performance or cost expections by a factor of 100. When I was kid - I thought we’d have people LIVING on the moon by now. Still stuck here!
