Glenn Greenwald points out that Foley apparently violated the very act the Republican leadership said would protect children from internet predators.
The act was lauded by Denny Hastert, who said:
At home, we put the security of our children first and Republicans are doing just that in our nation’s House. We’ve all seen the disturbing headlines about sex offenders and crimes against children. These crimes cannot persist. Protecting our children from Internet predators and child exploitation enterprises are just as high a priority as securing our border from terrorists. . . That’s why today we passed the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.
This is one of those out-of-the-blue stories that will really piss off voters, because the House leadership 1) covered it up and 2) lied about it.
You’d think they would have learned from Nixon: It’s always the coverup that gets you in the end.
From Roll Call:
At least four Republican House Members, one senior GOP aide and a former top officer of the House were aware of the allegations about Foley that prompted the initial reporting regarding his e-mail contacts with a 16-year-old House page. They include: Majority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Reynolds (N.Y.) and Reps. Rodney Alexander (R-La.) and John Shimkus (R-Ill.), as well as a senior aide to Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and former Clerk of the House Jeff Trandahl.
Buh-bye, Denny:

Yes, they could learn from the past. However, the core of this party is made up of miscreants, perverts, sadists and hubris filled pompous asses. Nary a true Christian conservative to be found.
To “learn the cover up is what gets you” would be to disavow what they are.
Not likely.
They will get away with it, as usual.
