I don’t get it. Why does Billmon think blackface is appropriate here? Jesus F’ng Christ, there are so many other ways to get a point across - why do white liberals always fall back on freaking blackface.

Ordinarily, I’d agree. But after watching Wolf’s baffled and servile reaction to the Lynne Cheney interview, I can’t think of a more apt analogy.
Sorry, Susie, you’re one of my dearest friends, but I disagree. There has to be a better, less hurtful, way, especially in light of the recent discussion of these issues in the blogosphere.

This is insane and inane. The ebogjonson flowchart is on the money: white folks cannot use blackface, any more than they should feel comfortable using the n-word. It’s only funny if lynching is funny, slavery is funny, and racism is funny.
Billmon’s post is racist. As was Jane Hamsher’s depiction of Joe Lieberman in blackface. And if he was actually reading Edward Said’s Orientalism (as claims in the right hand sidebar), he would understand why.
