A day after all his talk about “bipartisan” cooperation, Bush is sending the Bolton nomination to the Senate committee.
Game on.
UPDATE: Linc Chaffee says nope, he won’t do it.

You are a Working Class Warrior, also known as a blue-collar Democrat. You believe that the little guy is getting screwed by conservative greed-mongers and corporate criminals, and you’re not going to take it anymore.

This man fronts for a movement that depends on a disconnect between words and deeds. The Bolton nomination is all of a piece with this - demonization of Democrats for paying attention to Bolton’s history and qualifications instead of accepting what Republicans have called date rape.
Okay this is not a good start to the spirit of bipartisan cooperation but there is at least one area I’m sure W is happy to see the dems now in control. That’s on immigration reform and the guest worker program since it was the republicans in the house blocking the reform and pushing for stronger border enforcement and no guest workers which was just viewed as amnesty towards illegals. So at least there you will see a regular bipartisan love fest.
He always wants a “straight up or down vote” on these things. Surely we can now satisfy his desires with a “straight down” vote, can’t we? It would be in the spirit of bipartisanship after all!
it makes sense, he’s trying to shove bolton through the old senate before the new one is sworn in. some of the endangered republican senators who were afraid to support bolton before have now lost their elections and will feel free to vote for him now
filibuster!
They don’t have the balls to exercise the nuclear option, and if they do, then better for us in January…
Steve Clemons reports that Chafee will NOT support Bolton as one of his last acts as a Senator.
Clemons thinks the Bolton nomination is therefor dead.
[...] It turns out that we didn’t have to wait long to find out whether Bush’s gesture was sincere; today, Steve Clemons of The Washington Note reports that Bush is trying to push the Bolton nomination through a lame duck session in order to circumvent the upcoming Democratic congress (via Susie). This Bush Administration has no exit strategy in Iraq but it has always had a determined strategy to embed John Bolton in the U.N. where he can play the role of spoiler in international affairs. Mr. Bolton does not represent the interests of the majority of the American people. He acts as a firewall for Israel and when time permits, he seems to work to undermine the viability of the United Nations.
Republicans who aren’t really die-hard ideologues no longer have any reason to support any Bush nomination or proposal.
Those remaining in office will have to work closely with Democratic leadership if they want to accomplish anything and those leaving office will have to face the anger of their ex-constituents.
They certainly don’t have to worry about the anger of Frist or Hasert anymore.
All the clap trap about BUSH wanting to be “Bi-partisan” and work like he did in Texas is empty words from empty heads. Texas Governors are weak and the power lies with the Lt. Governor. Also Texas legislature works part time 4 months a year.
Remember his immortal words: I will work with those across the aisle who think like I do.
