From Not Larry Sabato:
A lot of people think Jim Webb may have overreacted to the President Bush when he asked about his son Jimmy at a recent White House function.
I’ve gotten a tip on the background to this confrontation, and it appears that Webb may have under reacted.
As President Bush is well aware, a couple of weeks before this dinner the tank riding next to Jimmy’s in Iraq was under fire and three marines died.
My sources are telling me that the way President Bush approached Webb with his tone, it appeared he was asking the question of how Jimmy was doing in a mocking manner, while he was certainly aware of the tragedy that had hit his unit a few weeks earlier.
Webb has every right to be livid as the Commander in Chief should not be talking about service members in Iraq in a condescending manner like that. I hope everyone can understand what Webb is going through as a parent with death striking Jimmy’s unit that closely, and President Bush should have been a lot more sympathetic to Jim’s feelings as a parent.
And Jim, thanks for showing the restraint not to knock Bush out when he did that.

He should’ve ‘Cheneyed’ him…
There’s a move taught by better hand-to-hand combat instructors that involves using the heel of one’s hand to drive the septum of an attacker up into that attacker’s brain. It takes less than a second to execute. Webb knows that move. The Chimperor should pray his thanks to his dreary patrician god that Jim Webb is as good a man as he is to have not used it and solved both his and the nation’s problem in one quick stroke. WHAP! Just the heel of his hand to his face is all it would have taken. Assrocket would have dropped like a bag of rocks.
As much as I love piling on this asshole emperor of a prez we got, I’m inclined to believe that Bush really doesn’t know (or isn’t made aware of) that much ground action.
I’m willing to bet that he asked in that same condescending, “Hehehe, we’re all in this together, buddy” asshole-ish way he has. And I’m also willing to bet that he just expected Webb to play along, and say, “He’s fine, sir” or some such nonsense.
But Webb definitely should have decked him. I’d like to think I would have.
Shit, I would’ve decked him just for getting into swinging distance.
Somehow, George Will neglected to convey this information.
Uncle Mike,
*I’m inclined to believe that Bush really doesn’t know (or isn’t made aware of) that much ground action.*
Just to let you know, sir, every single action passes under the cretins nose at least once. If he chooses to not read, that is certainly his business, but, like ignoring a jury summons, not reading is no excuse for not knowing.
Bush II knows about each and every congresspersons offspring in Iraq. Shouldn’t be that hard.
What, there are two? Okay, for him, maybe a little work…
It’s hard to respect a man who missed a chance to whack Bush.
