That would be the burglar alarm that went off in the building across the street sometime in the middle of the night. It’s not actually hooked up to the police department, so it doesn’t notify anyone - it just keeps up the ungodly racket. (Oh, and did I mention the flashing strobe lights?)
I woke up about 6:30 and called the police; they finally sent someone a half-hour later, but they didn’t find anything and they can’t get in the building. I called the realtor who’s selling the condos, and the commercial realtor who’s handling the retail space - no dice, closed for the holidays. Then I called my landlady about 8:30 to see if she could think of anyone else to call. She left a message with the community group that handled the building rehab. That was an hour ago.
My neighbor just stuck her head in the door to tell me she’d called all those people, too.
It’s Christmas time in the city…
UPDATE: Well, it’s finally off. I don’t know how, but I went off to the laundromat for some peace and quiet and when I came back, it was blessedly silent. A Christmas miracle!
Around here the police would find the bums and fine them for making noise.
