‘His Mother Is Not Well’

There are already far too many people whose lives were cut short by this immoral, pointless war, but this particular young man grew up near me when I lived in the Hellmouth. In the fall, the sounds of his high school’s football games (the roar of the crowd, the booming P.A. system) echoed across the Neshaminy Creek valley, and every June, I’d hear their graduation ceremony. So in a strange way, it feels even more personal.
And now he’s gone, thanks to self-righteous little worms like Joe Lieberman:
Young and Ki Moon went to bed Christmas Eve making plans to ship a package to their son in Iraq, an Army sergeant who had surprised them that night with a call from Baghdad.
But the Levittown couple’s ease didn’t last. Army casualty officers visited them Christmas Day to tell them that their son, Jae S. Moon, 21, had died from injuries suffered in a roadside blast.
The Moons are grieving the loss of their only son, said Alice Nam, a longtime friend of the Neshaminy High School graduate who spoke for his family. “His mother is not well.”
The night before, “He told everyone not to worry, that everything was OK,” Nam said.
“Everything was OK.” Yeah, that’s still the official line here. How do you sleep, Lieberman?
