Pierre: I Don’t Care

South Dakota takes a page from the Bush playbook. When the voters disagree with you, just go over their heads:
Legislators introduced a sweeping abortion bill Wednesday that supporters hope will lead to a legal challenge of Roe v. Wade.
The measure would allow exceptions for rape and incest with DNA evidence, making it slightly less rigid than a bill passed last year that contained an exception only to save the life of a woman. A petition campaign forced that bill onto the ballot, and voters rejected it in November by a margin of 56 percent to 44 percent.
Dammit, they make a big huff about activist judges, what about activist senates? Still, call me optimistic but I don’t think this stands a chance. It’s still an undue burden on women seeking access, just like Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Though the Supremem Court looks awful different these days than it did back in ‘92.
Nonetheless, The Fat Lady Sings’ rant about women meaning less and less sure does dovetail nicely with this story.

Thanks for the hat tip, my dear. I am so incensed about all this I want to march up on to each and every courthouse’s steps and take a baseball bat to the buildings in question. Knock the fuckers down and start anew. I know it would only be a symbolic gesture - but something need to get through to these people.
About 35 years ago a farmer in England was royally pissed off at a fine levied against him. At that time, checks could be written on anything and still be considered legal tender. So he wrote his remittance on the side of a cow and delivered it personally to the courthouse. I understand the cow promptly did what any suitably jostled bovine would do in similar circumstances. She literally ‘vented’ her discomfiture right there in front of the judge who’d levied that fine. I feel the exact same way about the courthouses in South Dakota, Kansas and Florida. Makes me wish I had access to a flatulent cow!
