Getting it right

Taibbi on Joe Biden. Go read the rest:

I’ve never thought much of Joe Biden. But man, did he get it right in last night’s debate, and not just because he walloped sniveling little Paul Ryan on the facts. What he got absolutely right, despite what you might read this morning (many outlets are criticizing Biden’s dramatic excesses), was his tone. Biden did absolutely roll his eyes, snort, laugh derisively and throw his hands up in the air whenever Ryan trotted out his little beady-eyed BS-isms.

But he should have! He was absolutely right to be doing it. We all should be doing it. That includes all of us in the media, and not just paid obnoxious-opinion-merchants like me, but so-called “objective” news reporters as well. We should all be rolling our eyes, and scoffing and saying, “Come back when you’re serious.”

The load of balls that both Romney and Ryan have been pushing out there for this whole election season is simply not intellectually serious. Most of their platform isn’t even a real platform, it’s a fourth-rate parlor trick designed to paper over the real agenda – cutting taxes even more for super-rich dickheads like Mitt Romney, and getting everyone else to pay the bill.

  1. The Republicans are peddling to discredited myths. One is the Horatio Alger myth. That’s the one which says that if you work hard and play by the rules you too can join the 1% just like the Koch brothers. The truth is the Kock brothers wouldn’t be the Koch brothers had they not had the good fortune of being born to a wealthy father. Ditto for Mitt Romney. The second is the Peace through strength myth. This myth tells us that if we maintain the most powerful miltary on earth no one will screw with us. So airplanes actually didn’t crash into the WTC? We didn’t really fight a war in Afghanistan and a war in Iraq? The Vietnam war was a figment of our collective imaginations? The Republicans are liars and criminals spreading false myths. They are all about keeping their plutoctratic friends in the money and in the 1%. We should all call bullshit on each and every one of them.

  2. Hooray for Joe Biden. Taibbi has it right, totally! Obama may not be everything we’d hoped he’d be, but I never got all the stuff I wanted for Xmas when I was a kid either. Let’s all put on our grown-up faces and look at what Obama has done and tried to do, in spite of the serious obstruction fronm the other side. Vote for the Dems for your own safety. Seriously.
