You Vill Register Now.

Seriously, the spambots are overwhelming our host server. We have to take drastic measures, or life as we know it is gone forever. Or something…
I know it goes against the grain, but please register to comment here. It’s like a vasectomy - it only hurts for a minute, and you’ll be glad later.
[Chris adding] If you use Yahoo email, your confirmation email with your password is going to wind up in the bulk mail folder. This is probably the case with other email systems as well. Feel free to contact me with your tales of horror and I’ll see what I can do to help you.

It’s not difficult and I’ve had to do this at so many other sites it is second nature. Use Mozilla or Firefox and your browser will remember the sign in for you.
Brendan went that way, too.
Gmail passes the email to the inbox just fine, and opera retains the cookie or whatever to remain logged in…
damn, that was a major pain in the ass. the registration email was picked up by my yahoo mail spam filter, and so i spent 20 minutes looking through over 1000 messages to find the damn thing.
but yeah, i’m registered now. and now that i am, i am now pro-registration. if i had to sudder through that, why shouldn’t everyone else?
This is a test to see if my ID works.
This is only a test.
In the event of a real comment, you would be up to your knees in pithy commenty goodness.
Well, that got a server error, but when I hit “Refresh” to re-submit it, it said it was a duplicate entry. So, obviously, it posted, but not without glitches.
And it happened again (minus my refreshing)
Here’s the error message, which you’re probably familiar with unto sickness by now:
“Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, susiemad@pair.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.”
That’s my favorite error John. I’ve spent the last 2 or 3 days staring at it.
Things may get better. They’re supposed to get better. We’ll see.
i get an error message every time i submit a comment. to avoid the duplicate comment, don’t hit refresh after you get the error message, hit the back button instead. when it loads the page you’ll still be in the right thread and your new comment will be there.
Did that just start happening with this new setup?
hotmail also junk mails the message.
Also, you might want to avoid using ones, els (1,l) zeroes and ohs (0o). Or alternatively, people may need to try switching these when logging in the passcode.
Let’s see if it’s fixed.
Nope. Well, this sucks.
Am I back?
WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Didn’t work the first time……
And here, I test with Firefox under (Mandriva) Linux.
Y’know, I’m really tempted to mention that in real life, I’ve had a lot of experience tuning systems and the one system I had total administrative control boasted 100% availability. (And no, I don’t mean 99.999%, rounded up.)
But that was in years past.
(Hey! No error message!) (And the omission of “over” after “control” in the past message was my error.)
I’d settle for something over 50% at this point, but I don’t have anything like full admin control over the bag of spare parts and burnt plastic this site resides on.
I’ve been getting the post error message for a while (using Opera)–well before regestration.
But not now…yea!
Is Unpartisan blog aggregator a spambot?
It’s a spamregator.
