Speaking of Phalluses…

So I was at the reception for this new art gallery, and I was standing in front of a large stone Cambodian phallus.
“You know, I was just thinking how much trouble it is when the right penis is attached to the wrong man,” I said to the woman standing next to me.
“You are so right,” she said. We started chatting.
She’s originally from the Bay area, she said. Turns out she’s into Vedic astrology and works right down the street from my office, so we traded business cards and made plans to have lunch.
Her co-worker chimed in. “You know, I have absolutely no faith in astrology, but I’m more than willing to let you try to convince me,” she said. “Can I come?”
“Sure,” I said. The more, the merrier!
My friend J. and his wife A. put the event together. I hadn’t seen them in a while, and it was nice to catch up. They have two little girls and they’re working from home, so they’re desperate to see other grownups. “Stop by anytime,” they pleaded.
I haven’t felt so popular in ages.

I have a new, um, “suitor” sorta, who is a Vedic Advaitist, about which I know nothing. We need to talk.
And you really need to get those server issues fixed, Chris.

I wonder if the converse is also true.
One thing for sure — it’s really big trouble
when the wrong Dick becomes attached to the
wrong Bush.

Again?
It’s a gallery specializing in Cambodian art.

Oy. What’s gone wrong now?
yeah, I meant ‘Not Again?’ as opposed to ‘Come Again?’ But that would have been apropos, too.
Chris,
About a third of the time, I call the site into my browser and get 1)nothing, 2)404 error, 3)”server error.”
That sucks. I’ll go kick the hamster around for a little and see if I can get the little bugger to run a little faster.
Melanie,
Advaita means “nonduality,” and advaitist philosophers don’t believe in anything. Literally. Nothing exists. It proposes that the entire universe never existed, does not exist now, and never can be.
I studied that philosophy quite intensely for a few years, but I no longer find it the least bit attractive.
I do wish to point out that there is truly nothing Vedic about advaita, although they like to call their philosophy ‘advaita vedanta,’ (meaning that the conclusion of knowledge is nonduality). Advaita philosophy appears somewhat theistic, as it portrays God as the controller of the world, but also says both God and the world are entirely imaginary. The purport of the Vedas, however, is the glorification of the Personality of Godhead, whose reality is absolute.
Pandu, thanks for the short course. I should now have a clue about what my new friend is talking about.
Chris,
Here’s the error message I just got:
