The Recovery Phase

I made some small steps toward reclaiming my life today. I drove to the local Comcast office (it had a security guard, which shouldn’t have surprised me - but it did) to swap out the cable modem.
Nope. Wasn’t the modem.
As you may have noticed, I haven’t been online much. That’s because I don’t have internet access very often. All day, in fact.
This time, they sent a senior tech. This guy actually seemed competent and conscientious. He tested the line at the back of the house and informed me he had to “refer the problem to the line crew.” The line crew, he promised me, would fix it within 48 hours.
“Oh, it’s okay,” I said. “I’m already used to never having internet access.”

last time they tried that 48 hour shit on me i got hysterical on the phone. they came early the next morning. comcast is one company where i’ve found screaming really works. and they don’t hang up on you when you curse, at least if you get the local people - but you have to go through the tv people, not internet which goes directly to canada or india.
at any rate, you can’t trust that this guy put the order through to the line crew, so you should call them yourself if you haven’t already.
How much $$$ can they save by outsourcing support
to Canada — maybe 10% or 15%?
Or do they do it because competent and articulate
people are easier to find there?
well i imagine they save lots on health insurance. i mean, that’s what the automakers’ excuse is. 10-15% is a huge amount when it comes to employee compensation anyway.
i don’t know their reasons, just know that i’ve gotten people in canada.
