Run, Al, Run

Even Steve Jobs wants Al to run:
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has stated that Al Gore, an Apple board member and former US vice-president, would win the presidency if he ran for election.
“If he ran, there’s no question in my mind that he would be elected,” Jobs told Time magazine. “But I think there’s a question in his mind, perhaps because the pain of the last election runs a lot deeper than he lets most of us see.”
Gore has campaigned to persuade people to address the growing threat of climate change, which could cause environmental collapse.
“We have dug ourselves into a 20-foot hole, and we need somebody who knows how to build a ladder. Al’s the guy,” Jobs also told Newsweek. “Like many others, I have tried my best to convince him. So far, no luck.”

Run, Al, run!
I’m not sure on Al but I would like someone/anyone who would advance a serious energy plan. which would protect the environment and address our national security by reducing our dependence on foreign sources of oil.
Of course those goals will not happen in a year or even 10 years but the longer we put it off we risk too much. The first steps would be easy and the technology is in existence now. How about a 10 year goal of half the houses in the country with solar roofs. With them for the most part off the grid for half the day or even feeding power into the grid less coal fired plants would have to be used. At the same time there needs to be greatly increased funding of public transit including restoring the passenger rail network to it’s glory days.
Once those are in place a serious program to develop new clean sources of energy can happen and should get the funding. Think of it as the modern version of the Manhattan project.
What John said.
If we really wanted to, we could get very far
in 10 years.
But I fear that Big Oil, Detroit, and other key
elements of the economic status quo that owns
American politics would sabotage such efforts.
