Public Transit

That working people can’t afford. What a great idea! Even though, of course, Philadelphia is the economic engine that drives the rest of the state, but hey. It’s really more important that Republican officials from the rest of the state get to hold our feet to the fire every few months so they can feel, you know, manly.

It’s called what they were elected to do…represent their districts not the rest of the state. Maybe if Philadelphia had a working government instead of the clown academy currently in place the rest of the state would be willing to work with it.
Of course one problem is that the chief graduate of the clown academy has fooled enough idiots to be elected governor.
So by John’s logic, Philadelphia’s revenue should only go to philadelphia.
We should be exempt from paying state income taxes, because that goes to “the rest of the state”.
How wonderful for all Pennsylvanians that Harrisburg believes as John (which webster’s defines as “1 [probably short for johnny, johnny house privy] : TOILET
2 : a prostitute’s client) does: that narrow parochial interests outweigh the benefit of the entire state.
The fact is, if Philadelphia ’s transit was properly funded, it would have more riders and generate more revenue for the state of Pennsylvania. Even enough for John to go back to high school and get his diploma.
Brendan, first off thanks for taking the high road in this.
No Philadelphia’s revenue should not only go to Philadelphia. The point is that the city is so poorly run that the rest of the state wishes it would just go away.
Alot of the cities problem is that it has had over 100 years of one party rule first 50 or so republican and the last 50 or so of democratic. The only thing that has done is lead to a government that is disfunctional. I’m not suggesting that electing republicans in the city is the answer but city hall does need to be cleaned up.
My pleasure to take the high road John: we’re fellow travelers after all, what with your initial “clown show” references. I just wanted to keep the dialogue on the same level as the one you introduced.
As for your assertion that Philadelphia’s revenue shouldn’t just stay in Philly, that completely contradicts your point about representation.
basically, you guys from the sticks want to starve Philadelphia of the resources necessary for the city to run effectively, including public transport, but you want us to give our revenue to the state so they can fix YOUR roads. You want something for nothing, and that’s a nonstarter.
