Is Fred Thompson on the Downlow?

Why are all his ex-girlfriends so eager to come to the defense of his manliness?
Why did James Dobson say he was “un-Christian”?
Why is Rush Limbaugh complaining about the coverage of Thompson as sex symbol, saying, “There’s something wrong here”?
Lots and lots of rumors. I’ve heard them myself - I’ve even talked to someone who has witnessed some interesting behavior. I noticed when the Washington Post recently profiled him, several of the local commenters reacted along the lines of “I thought he was gay?”
Not that I’d normally give a rat’s ass where Fred Thompson puts his Members Only, but there is that little matter of Fred supporting the right-wing anti-gay agenda.
And now, even Andrew Sullivan is hinting:
Outside the extremist, activist base, regular GOP voters turn out to be relatively tolerant when it comes to sexual minorities and private sex lives. They’re not well represented by their party leaders, as far as policy is concerned. This is good news for Fred Thompson. The man has had a colorful and wide-ranging sex life, as I’m sure we will soon find out.
If he’s in the closet, I’d say that puts him right in the Republican mainstream. Wouldn’t you?
I wish things were at the stage in this country where it would be more effective to point out his corporatist ways, or his role in vetting and pushing the Roberts and Alito nominations, but hey, whatever gets the job done!

I’ve been seeing these strategically placed hints the last couple of weeks in various media. Fred may or may not be gay, but the way it’s dripping out is definitely part of an organized “whisper campaign”.
Let me put it this way: I heard about this after he was out of the Senate, and LONG before anyone even dreamed he’d run for President.
I just find it fascinating that he assumes no one will ever talk about it. He must, because why else would he even consider running?
Interesting behavior? Cough it up Susie!
Sullivan put out this rumor today. He says that was not what he intended in the least bit.
Considering the Republican track record in this matter (and their method of attacking Democrats on their strengths, a la John Kerry, a war hero who was forced to defend himself from charges he was a TRAITOR), perhaps the burden of proof should be on their candidates: Prove to us you’re NOT a closeted gay Republican.
After all, why should we believe they’re not?
Libs Denounce Fred Thompson As Gay…
Vociferously homosexual blogger Andrew Sullivan, aka Andrianna Sullington, has hit a new low by attempting to spread the rumor that Fred Thompson shares his perverse “orientation”: Outside the extremist, activist base, regular GOP voters turn out to …
Hilarious. Unnamed sources allude to “behavior” in undoubtedly what would be set in a very dim corner of a very dim Italian restaurant if this was a bad B-movie, some nobody blogger Susie Mandrak’s is just shocked that this hasn’t come out earlier since a nobody like her from Delaware County with her extensive DC insider sources is apparently well-informed of it, and then of course we get the homophobia rolling with a little fine example of liberal tolerance for those allegedly outside the mainstream of society - “Fred Thompson prove you’re not queer you fucking faggot” that’s pretty much what I got from Susie’s last comment.
The sad fact is Susie that John Kerry repeated hearsay and basically made shit up while under oath to the Congress in the Vietnam war crimes hearings and also attended meetings between “peace” groups and Vietcong and North Vietnamese officials while he was still a US serviceman, which was a violation of the law. To say that is treason is a stretch far too far, but I don’t think it’s admirable behavior either.
Tell me Susie why do you hate homosexuals? Are you some kind of Godbot, be it Version Crucifixion or Jihad 2.0? The blatant hypocrisy here is stunning. Assume Fred Thompson is gay. Shouldn’t you want to help him as he would obviously be a very confused man, instead of engaging in homophobic rabble-rousing. What possible purpose could the general liberal smear tactic against Republicans as being closet homosexuals save to harm them BECAUSE of their homosexuality.
You can claim that it’s really just highlighting their hypocrisy, but that is just a cover and we all know it. You know and I know and everyone knows that the most damage will be caused by their now public identification as homosexual, not their alleged political hypocrisy. The left deliberately engages in this homophobic witch-hunt instead of reaching out to Republicans they suspect are gay precisely because they know that by screeching that this GOP candidate may be gay or is gay he’s gay gay gay he’s a gay Republican how ironic a gay Republican that the homophobia of a not-so-small fraction of this country’s population will be turned off to him.
It’s transparent and it’s sickening. In the future the Right of this era will be remembered for the hubris of neo-conservatism… as for the Left, it will be remembered for its vicious, bigoted, sophomoric tactics.
